The running of Ciel Indienne today, in the 7th race should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Here are the previous running patterns of Ciel Indienne:
Pn09 - 24/10⁄09 R# 231-4th (10m) 3rd till bend, later lost one place.
M9-10 - 29/11⁄09 R# 22-2nd (12m) led till beaten in the last 200mts.
24/12⁄09 R # (79) (14m) pillar to post victory.
17/1⁄10 R# 137-3rd (14m) ran on from 6th position at 600mts.
6/2⁄10 R# 173-2nd (14m) 3rd till 600,later fought well finishing good 2nd.
BgS10 - 20/6⁄10 R# 84-3rd (16m) led till 1200, 2nd till 600, again led at 400, 2nd till 200, 3rd
So its obvious that the horse likes to go to the front in a 1400 mtr race. Now let us consider today's run where in as soon as it took a jump, it was settled in a probable 5th position along the rails & it never took of from there & finished a miserable 2nd last, beating one home. The news that was making rounds at Bangalore & probably at all centers came true in the form of the result of the race. No matter what the formally acceptable explanation for the performance of the horse maybe, it cannot run such a bad race.
As handicappers, we are bound to believe what is on paper has to be true. However, such incidents expose the degree to which larceny is sports exist, especially in a country like ours, & it would be fair to say, the racing administrators have to do better than what they have been doing, particularly in centers like Bangalore.
If the run of Ciel Indienne is indeed true, then Sun Kingdom & Immense dont deserve to get the kind of favoritism that they are attracting for the Derby.
